NHL Stanley Cup Champion Odds After 30 Games

We are now around 30 games into the 82-game NHL regular season.  Teams are beginning to emerge as serious cup contenders, while others are falling out of the playoff race entirely.  There have been many surprises to start the season and the Stanley Cup futures odds have changed dramatically to portray the publics view of each teams chance at the Cup.  Some teams odds have improved (I think the Colorado Avalanche are the prime example of this), while some teams odds have pretty well disappeared (Carolina Hurricanes).  It would take an absolute miracle for the Hurricanes to even make the playoffs at this point, so there are no payouts big enough to make me place a dime on Carolina at this point.

Here is a look at some of the Stanley Cup Champions odds available at various sportsbooks:

Top Contenders

Pittsburgh Penguins – 6.00
San Jose Sharks – 6.50
Chicago Blackhawks – 6.50
Washington Capitals – 7.00

No Shot

Carolina Hurricanes – 201.00
Toronto Maple Leafs – 126.00
Florida Panthers – 101.00
Minnesota Wild – 101.00
New York Islanders – 101.00

Solid Contenders (Some Strong Bets)

Here are some teams that could have an outside chance of hoisting the Cup at seasons end.  I feel that betting on these teams would be positive value bets.

Boston Bruins – 19.00
New Jersey Devils – 17.00
Ottawa Senators – 31.00
Vancouver Canucks – 19.00

Horrible Bets

In my opinion, these teams have absolutely no shot at winning the Stanley Cup.  To make matters worse the payout ratio on these bets isn’t even all that great.

Montreal Canadiens – 56.00
Anaheim Mighty Ducks – 51.00
Colorado Avalanche – 29.00
Edmonton Oilers – 61.00
